Welwyn Garden City teenagers pay tribute to WW1 fallen

08th November 2018

Welwyn Garden City pupils have created an eye-catching art installation on their school grounds to mark the centenary of the signing of the Armistice.

Year 7s at Ridgeway Academy also wrote poems on the subject as well.

Through history, art and English lessons, they have been learning about the First World War and the sacrifice made by so many men and women.

On Monday, the school is set to hold a remembrance service where pupils responsible for the art installation will read their poems as a mark of respect.

In addition, pupils who wear service uniforms or organisational uniforms have been invited to wear these.

Headteacher Jed Whelan said; “We have been very impressed with the level of passion and creativity shown by the students, in addition to the high degree of compassion each student has shown.

“We believe it is vitally important for our young people to understand the significance of these historical events and to honour those involved.”
